Richard James Tallman, age 89, of Seattle, Washington passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022 at home. He was born May 24, 1933 in Sweetwater, Idaho.
My Grandpa, Richard James Tallman passed away peacefully, in his sleep on August 5, 2022. Richard was born in Sweetwater, Idaho on May 24, 1933 to Natalie and Haskey Tallman. The family moved to Toppenish, Washington. This is where Richard grew up and graduated from White Swan High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War, stationed in Soule, Korea. Richard had the honor of serving as John Glen’s Airline mechanic. John Glenn was the third American in space and the first to orbit the Earth. After Air Force service, Richard studied and become an Airline mechanic for United Airlines for over 32 years, until his retirement.
Richard enjoy Native activities, the intertribal lunches, Pow Wows, Canoe Journeys, Long House activities and other Native events. Richard also enjoyed the United Airlines Retirees monthly breakfast gatherings. He loved to travel with his late wife, Phyllis. They went to Hawaii, London, Alaska, Argentina and all around the United States. He loved baseball, the Mariners, trains, and airplanes.
Richard, a Full-Blood Navajo is survived by his children, Judy Anderson and Pauline American Horse. His sister-in-law, Roseanne Tallman, his nieces, Alexa Bogusta and her three daughters, Amanda, Laina, and Eva, Kim Fleming and her two sons, Zach and Haskey, Tracey, her husband (Keith)and daughter Meaghan Reinhart and Stephine Pastrana. His grandchildren, Jason Rose and his wife, Lilli, Dawn Anderson, and Raymond Williams and Great Grandchildren, Richard Williams, Raymond Henry-Williams and Richard Henry-Williams.
Richard is proceeded in death by his wife, Phyllis Tallman (nee Modeste), his parents, Natalie and Haskey Tallman, his sister Evelyn Pastrana, his brother, Calvin Tallman, and his son, Raymond Williams.
Richard will be missed, as an Elder in the Native Community, he has met many people and made many friends. Donations in his memory can be made to United Indians of All Tribes Foundation, Chief Seattle Club or the Duwamish Long House.
