aye, there’s the rub,
For in that sleep of death,
what dreams may come,
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,”
William Shakespeare (Hamlet)
Angel came down from heaven yesterday
She stayed with me just long enough to rescue me
And she told me a story yesterday,
About the sweet love between the moon and the deep blue sea
And then she spread her wings high over me
She said she's gonna come back tomorrow
And I said, "Fly on my sweet angel,
Fly on through the sky,
Fly on my sweet angel,
Tomorrow I'm gonna be by your side"
Sure enough this morning came unto me
Silver wings silhouetted against the child's sunrise
And my angel she said unto me,
"Today is the day for you to rise
Take my hand, you're gonna be my man,
You're gonna rise"
And then she took high over yonder
And I said, "Fly on my sweet angel,
Fly on through the sky,
Fly on my sweet angel,
Forever I will be by your side”
Jimi Hendrix (Angel)
Paul was born in Seattle & grew up in the Ravenna neighborhood.
The poetry of Paul's generation were song lyrics. Paul heard the melody behind the words & could verbalize it through his guitar. His first guitar was an Aria & he went on to collect many guitars throughout his life. In his teens he played music on the road, traveling to Vancouver BC, on to Denver, back through Seattle and down to Eugene Oregon. He did studio recordings, playing on friends albums, then CDs, as well as audio engineering, working sound boards to achieve a clarity of tone. He understood the mechanics of the equipment through his stint doing repair work at Bozotronics in Fremont. This gave him insight into the equipments capability to enhance the mix. He very much understood how things work and how they are put together; thinking in the abstract & always striving for improvement. He worked with an artisan speaker maker to build one of a kind high end speakers.
He left his music behind to return to school, first earning his GED then his Associate Arts degree from North Seattle Community College. While in school, he worked with his brother in construction where he learned framing and became lead framer, laminate & cabinet installation & fabrication. He later had his own construction business. His attention to detail, organizational skills, & outgoing personality led him to work at a cabinet company before joining the City of Bellevue in Facilities Engineering where he worked for 24 years. Starting out as a Craftsworker Helper, Paul advanced to a Supervisory position, managing a crew of 11. Active in Emergency Management, Paul played an integral role in earthquake preparedness & disaster recovery drills. He went on to become Security Supervisor & was responsible for rekeying City Hall twice, including upgrades to a high security system of CCTV, HID card access & database management to support the system. He was a certified locksmith for basic lock smithing, high security and detention facilities as well as a certified hardware writer. Paul went on to become a well-respected Security expert for all of Bellevue's facilities. His depth of knowledge, meticulous approach, open personality & intuition earned him lifelong friends. He was a care giver. While at the City he participated in a mentoring program, becoming a friend and advocate for a child in need from the 5th through the 7th grade. This young man became the first in his family to graduate high school & earn a degree from the University of Washington.
He loved all things Disney; he found delight in surprising his wife with tickets & a travel package to visit the park for any reason - be it Valentines Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas or to commemorate an attraction opening event like Splash Mountain, Indiana Jones, Toon Town or California Adventure. Overall he visited the California park 17 times and Walt Disney World 4 times. His enthusiasm brought many friends along who may not otherwise have gone. And they loved it. Other travel highlights include Manhattan & the Metropolitan Museum of Art & London's British Museum to feed his fascination with ancient Egypt, Hamburg & surrounds to connect with his wife's exchange family & experience Christmas in Germany, Gettysburg & Williamsburg for his love of history, Washington DC for more history & to explore his family's roots and Ashland Oregon to get his Shakespeare fix. An avid theater lover, Paul and Farley volunteered at The Seattle Children's Theater for 18 years. Active in the Seattle Highland Games Association, Paul was a supporter & volunteer for over 35 years. He was a talented amateur chef & enjoyed cooking for his family & friends.
Married for 33 years, he & his wife Farley lived in Kirkland. Among those waiting to greet him on the other side were his mother Mary Elaine, his auntie Joyce, Farley's mother & father, a horse & several cats. Those that must wait to catch up with him are his wife Farley, sister Nita, brother Geoff, and father Fred.
