Norman Robert Schultz was a man who fully embraced life! He was born in Teaneck, NJ April 18, 1929, and passed away in Seattle, WA May 30, 2023, from complications from COVID. Norm’s family moved from New York to Portland, OR in 1939 when his father was appointed the first Chief Engineer at the Bonneville Power Administration. He graduated third in his class in engineering from OSU in 1951, worked at Boeing, then was enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War, serving in Biloxi, MS, and retiring as a Captain after years of reserve duty. He started a manufacturer’s representative firm, which he ran for 45 years, with offices in three states.
Norm is preceded in death by his parents Sol Schultz and Mildred Levy Schultz and brother Allan Schultz. He is survived by his wife Roberta Schultz, brother Merrill Schultz, children Bruce Schultz, Jill Schultz, and Lisa Schultz Golden (Aron), and grandchildren Hannah Mitchell (Paul), Brian Schultz, and Frankie Golden.
Norm and his first wife, Carol Frank Suckerman, raised their children on Mercer Island. He was a hands-on father who cherished time spent with his children and took great joy in participating in their lives. Norm had a love for the outdoors, working his college summers with the forest service in Oregon. His happy place was camping and fly fishing on the banks of the Elwha River on the Olympic Peninsula. He loved to exercise and run and participated in several half marathons and triathlons.
Norm enjoyed travel, and his love of history fueled his passion to see the world, including the south of France, Great Britain, Alaska, Europe, Hawaii, Canada and Mexico. He took great pleasure in performing community service with Roberta, volunteering at the Jewish Family Service food bank, leading tours as docents at the Bellevue Arts Museum, and manning the information booth at the Bellevue Arts Fair. He was a warm and devoted husband to Roberta and enjoyed their golden years together.
