Millie Sather passed away in her home in July 2023. Born in 1930 to Norwegian immigrants, Malene and Paul Sather, she was raised in Ballard. In the years following her graduation from Ballard HS in 1948, she married Don Rodland and received her BA degree from UW. She taught middle school in her early career, then started a family, raising her children while moving across the U.S. (IL, NJ, CA). She ended her career as a bank savings officer before returning to Seattle upon retirement in the mid 80's.
As an active member of University Presbyterian Church, Millie faithfully served in Hospitality for many years. She enjoyed traveling and her many adventures included trips to China, Israel, and Europe. Her favorite trips were to Norway to visit her beloved relatives. Beyond travel, she enjoyed all things social: time with family, investment club, bible study, theater groups, and social activities at the Hearthstone. She moved to The Hearthstone in 2015, where she lived a happy, independent life until her passing.
Millie is survived by her son, Marcus Rodland, her daughter, Kristi Russell (Craig), her grandchildren, Lindsy and Nick Russell, and many Norwegian relatives. Millie was the last surviving of her Norwegian cousins, the end of an era for her family.
A private family Celebration of Life is planned. An online memorial page is available through Dignity Memorial at Evergreen Washelli.
Donations in memory of Millie can be made to World Vision, University Presbyterian Church, or the charity of your choice.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Evergreen-Washelli.com for the Sather family.
