He was surrounded by his family including his sons, Kevin and Patrick, two of his daughters-in-law’s Karen Merriam and Karen Elliott, his five grandchildren, Jordan, Haley, Evan, Ryan and Jenna, his granddaughter-in-law Julia, as well as his great grandchildren, Jason, Mickey, and Mackenna.
Mickey was born in Bluffton Indiana on November 1st, 1928. As a boy, Mickey began traveling across the US with his parents as they went where the work was. Despite moving around many times, Mickey remained incredibly smart in school and even skipped a grade. Mickey was forced to work as young as 12 years old with his father in construction until he entered the US Navy in 1946. He spent time in the Philippines, Hawaii, Guam and Saipan before his departure from the service in San Francisco in 1948.
Upon his return to civilian life, he continued in the Construction business as a Carpenter and Construction Superintendent. He arrived in Seattle to work on the construction of Northgate Mall and met his wife Mary in a diner she was working at in 1955. They were soon married, made their home, and raised the family in Seattle.
Mickey had a pilot license and loved to fly planes, as well as race stock cars and hydroplanes, until he realized the risk to his family was too great. Mickey always prioritized family first above anything. His family was the most important thing in the world to him.
He was generous, kind, loving and protective until his last breath. He had a special relationship with all his grandchildren, as a group and as individuals. As a father he was tough but fair, his boys were his pride and joy. He had a very special bond with his great grandson, Jason, as they spent quite a bit of time together and it was easy to see the love they had for each other. He also highly enjoyed the honor of his name being carried onward by his other great-grandson Mickey, born in 2020.
He will be missed and loved by all who knew him. Private Burial will happen on February 10th, 2023 at Evergreen Washelli Cemetery in North Seattle (11111 Aurora Ave N, Seattle, WA 98133.) Flowers sent will be placed with him at his gravesite.
