Marjorie Ruth Butler passed away July 2, 2024, at the age of 98. She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Don E. Butler and her brother Don Milsted. She was born to Ruth and Leslie Milsted in Seattle on October 19, 1925. She was raised on Queen Anne Hill and was a proud graduate of Queen Anne High School, class of 1943 and could still sing the school “fight song”. She had fond memories of roller skating on the Boulevard and lively lunches at the Grizzly Inn.
She graduated from the UW with an interior design degree and was in the Tri Delta sorority. In 1948 she married Don. The family, with children Judith, Brian and Leslie, lived in Seattle, Spokane, and Olympia before settling in West Seattle in 1968. There were many moves in the early years, but mom instantly made each new house a home – one year she presented a perfect Christmas celebration less than two weeks after moving in. After working a number of years as a real estate agent, she retired, but was active following her many interests. An avid reader, she belonged to the same literary group for over 30 years and was a long-time member of the West Seattle Art Club. She was always creative - drawing, painting, embroidery, sewing etc. She loved gardening and cooking was an interest in which she he excelled in, along with being a terrific hostess. Marjorie was active in local politics and regularly volunteered for various groups.
Dementia became an issue for Marjorie in 2004. This was a devastating loss for such an active mind and vibrant personality. Fortunately, the disease’s progression was slow, and she never lost her humor, warmth and thoughtfulness, or love of singing. In her last years, she had excellent care from Sun Village Family Home in Kirkland WA. The family is very grateful to the care providers for their loving attention to their mother.
Marjorie is survived by her children: Judith Russell, Brian (Carolyn Johnson) Butler, and Leslie (David Thorp) Butler, three grandchildren; Celeste, Thomas, and Kai and three great grandchildren; Isaiah, Julien, and Rue.
