Mrs. Lucy Mae Bell Thomas
We honor and celebrate Lucy Mae Bell Thomas as a mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a phenomenal woman who loved deeply, gave generously, counseled wisely, joyfully danced and sang, and will always be remembered in our hearts as "Sweet Sixteen" forever.
Lucy was born in Mobile, Alabama on August 8 ,1920, to Wilder and Lucy Mitchell Bell. She was the fourth of five siblings who are all deceased, and was baptized at the Metropolitan Church in Mobile, AL, but later converted to Catholicism.
She met Eugene Bradley (deceased) in Mobile, AL, and from this union her oldest daughter, Augustine "Tina" Bradley Fleming was born. She later met and married James Foster Sr. and had two more children, James Jr. and Odessa, and she adopted son James "Tommy" Foster III, all of whom are deceased.
Lucy attended Royalty Beauty College where she received her degree in cosmetology. She loved talking to young people and explaining the purpose of beauty, personal hygiene and getting a good education.
Her kindness was widespread. You have heard that "actions speak louder than words," and this is how Lucy lived her life. Her actions always conveyed loyalty, compassion, kindness, gentleness and patience towards others and she always had a positive and joking attitude towards everyone she met. She held these virtues tightly (Proverbs 3:3) and lived a long happy and good Christian life. Lucy lived her life to the fullest. She was finally called home on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, and ascended to Heaven with grace and surrounded by love.
Lucy will always be remembered as a fun-loving and supportive mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to everyone she met. To continue celebrating her life, she leaves her daughter and son-In law, Augustine "Tina" and Senator George Fleming. Three grandchildren, Sonja Fleming Schuett, Yemi Fleming Jackson and her husband Rodney and Renton City Council President, Edward Prince and his wife Meegan. Seven great grandchildren, Arica, Christopher, Micah, Myles, Nyah, Alexander and Carrington. Also, her niece Mena Wiley and family and her nephew Dwight Raine and his wife Karla and family as well as extended family and longtime friends.
Her spirit and energy will remain with us always.
