LARRY L. STEFFY died November 5, 2022 in Mount Vernon, WA. He was born in Holdredge, NE on August 17, 1939 and was raised in Orleans, NE. He moved with his family to Washington in 1952 where he attended Walla Walla High School. Larry served his beloved country as a non-commissioned officer and Expert Rifleman in the United States Army, where he was a post war peacekeeper in Korea. After his service, he graduated from the University of Washington with his teaching degree and got married to the love of his life, Virginia (Gini) Colcock.
He spent his first couple years as a teacher in the Edmonds School district, helping to establish the automotive program at Woodway High School, before changing careers and owning his own auto repair business, G&S Motors in Lynwood, WA, that he ran alongside his wife.
He was a very accomplished racer. In 1967, he won the Foreign Stock championship at Monroe Speedway and is memorialized on the wall. He won the 1994 Outstanding Member of the Year award for the Automotive Service Association.
After he retired from G&S Motors, Larry again took up teaching. This time he was a substitute in the Edmonds Schools district and then the Mount Vernon School District until the pandemic in 2020. He served as Precinct Committee Office for Skagit County. And, most recently served on the Vestry as Senior Warden of Trinity Anglican Church of Mount Vernon.
He devoted much time to his family. Numerous weekends were spent as sponsor and team mechanic to an early off road car team, coaching baseball and soccer, off roading, RV car racing, CB Club, RV planes and family motocross racing where we made lifelong friendships and incredible memories. He loved being at Lake Cavanaugh, going shooting, arm wrestling, talking politics and spending time with family & friends.
He is reunited with family in heaven, including his father, Fred Leroy Steffy; his mother, Florence Fay (Swiatoviak); brothers Merlyn, Gerald and Laurel; and his sister Bernadine. He is survived by his wife, Gini; a son, Scot and daughter-in-law Cindy; a daughter, Cathy and son-in-law George; and a sister-in-law, Mary Jo Steffy.
