Judy Jane Koons, 82, passed away on July 5, 2013 after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Koons and her niece Melissa Jones. She is survived by her four children; Nance O’Day, Mike Koons, Jeff Koons, and Amy Bork; her sister, Patricia Skei; her niece, Christine Hagen; two grandnephews and a grandniece.
She was born in Mason City, Iowa to Leslie and Kathryn Anderson. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Washington, and later earned an associate’s degree in early childhood education. She spent most of her adult life in Seattle, Washington, where she was active in her community as a PTA president, Girl Scout leader, singer in the Leonard Moore Chorale and the Seattle Opera Chorus. Throughout her lifetime she worked as a preschool teacher, restaurant owner and dressmaker. Judy also gave tarot and astrology readings and classes, and spent time studying and working in the nutrition and supplement industry. One of her proudest accomplishments was co-authoring a book on the moon phases shortly before the onset of her illness.
Some of her many interests included cooking, any time spent outdoors (from the beach to the mountains), music of all types, a good cup of coffee, a pumpkin muffin and strong peppermints. She was “Mom” to countless people who came through her home over the years and was happiest surrounded by children and animals. Judy will be remembered for her positive outlook on life, smile, sense of humor, warm and generous spirit, and giving the world’s best hugs. One of her favorite quotes was, “Life unfolds with divine perfection.”
Judy is laid to rest next to her husband in the Maple Garden at Acacia Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
