Jean Charlotte Austin

2017, in Kirkland, WA. She grew up in Centralia, and lived all over the Pacific Northwest as she was growing up, following her father a noted contractor, moving from job to job. His most notable achievement was the building of the Deception Pass Bridge on Whidbey Island. Jean was a graduate of WSU and a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She met her husband while attending WSU and after graduation, later also attended Stanford Graduate School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Austin, also a noted contractor in the Pacific Northwest. His projects included the Umatilla Bridge, the Kennewick Bridge, and The Dalles Dam. He was also a former national President of the Assoc. of General Contractors. Jean lived the last 55 years in the Seattle area, and was very active volunteer in many causes, including the Seattle Milk Fund, and the Ryther Foundation. She was an active and enthusiastic bridge player, and she and her husband were world travelers. Jean and Bob were strong supporters of the WSU Alumni Foundation for many years, including establishing a scholarship in perpetuity for construction management.

Jean is survived by her sons, Robert R. Austin living in Snohomish, Dr. James M. Austin, living in Bellevue, and daughter, Sue Kincaid, living in Mill Creek, six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. No public services are planned.
