It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jabre Hanna Daoura, lovingly known as “Gaby”. Gaby passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024, in Kirkland, WA, surrounded by the family he devoted his life to. He was 89 years old.
Born on March 29, 1935, in El Mina, Lebanon, Gabriel was a brilliant architect whose talent and vision shaped numerous landmark projects across the Middle East. A graduate of the prestigious Sorbonne University in Paris, he contributed to significant infrastructure developments, including large-scale buildings and bridges.
Despite his professional accomplishments, Gabriel’s greatest pride and joy was his family. Amid the conflicts and challenges of war in Lebanon, he made the courageous decision to relocate his family to France and then to the United States. His selfless sacrifices ensured that his three sons - Dr. Nicolas Daoura, Marco Daoura, and Daniel Daoura - received exceptional educations and built successful lives.
Gabriel’s love for nature was a cornerstone of his life. He found immense joy in planting fruit and nut trees, a passion he passed down to his children. The family’s shared love for gardening became a cherished bond, from the orchards of Lebanon to their homes in Washington. Gabriel also loved adventures with his family, from snorkeling for sea urchins on the islands of Tripoli, Lebanon, to championing backgammon in the Seattle Lebanese club, hiking Haleakala, Hawaii, and cruising through Alaska - a dream come true for him.
Gabriel’s devotion to his family extended to his grandchildren, whom he adored. He was a constant source of love, laughter, and warmth, always glowing with pride when surrounded by his children and grandchildren. His humor, strength, and generosity of spirit will live on in the memories of his family.
Gabriel is survived by his beloved wife, May Daoura, with whom he shared 58 wonderful years of marriage. She lovingly cared for him for more than a decade. He is also survived by his three sons and their families:
● Dr. Nicolas Daoura, his wife Kathy and children, Gabriel, Michael, Christopher, and Lillie.
● Marco Daoura, his wife Anya and children, Luka, Max, and Katya.
● Daniel Daoura, his wife Angela and daughters, Chloe, Siena, and Claire.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Elias and his sister Margeritte, and now joins them in eternal peace.
A memorial service will be held to honor Gaby’s remarkable life at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Seattle on Saturday, December 14th, 2024, at 11:30 AM PT, with a reception immediately following at 12:30 PM. Refreshments, coffee, and Lebanese food will be served during the reception from 12:30 to 2:00 PM PT. The burial is planned for Monday, December 16th, 2024, at 12:30 PM at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home & Cemetery in Seattle.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Gabriel Daoura’s memory to St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church (https://www.saintdemetrios.com/stewardship/egiving) or Washington Wildlife First (https://wawildlifefirst.org/donate/).
