Ivan Alfred Smith Jr., loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and all around amazing man passed away on January 26, 2019 in Centralia, Washington. He was 85 years old. Ivan was the fourth of five children, born to Ivan Alfred and Leona Conner Smith on May 25, 1933 in Yakima, Washington.
At age 22, he joined the Navy. A hero in every sense of the word, Ivan served 4 tours in Vietnam as a Hospital Corpsman First Class, serving with both the Navy and the Marines. He married Mary Jane Clemens and they had one son together, eventually divorcing. He had three children with his second wife, Sirje Hennepere. After 20 years of service, he retired from the military in March, 1975.
After the military, Ivan started a second career in real estate and it was during this time he met and married the love of his life, Elizabeth Lundin. Married on December 26, 1984, they spent 32 happy years together, enjoying family and friends and traveling the country in their RV. Never one to stay still, Ivan loved to travel. He was never happier than when he and Elizabeth could enjoy the open road, spending time in Long Beach, WA, Arizona or their beloved Hawaii. He loved to hunt, fish and grab a beer with his many, many close friends.
Ivan is survived by his youngest sister Beverly Engel (Bob), children Dan Troxler (Dale), Scott Smith (Amy), Ivan Smith, Carleen Smith, and step children Lynn Phipps, Becky Fann (Mike), Martha Wilson (John), Roy Lundin (Kim) and Amy Pelly (Richard). He leaves behind 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Colleen Bartlett (Edward), Josephine Brown (LaVern), an infant brother, step daughter Sheila Campbell and his beloved Elizabeth Smith who passed away March 20, 2017.
Fiercely loyal, he loved his family and tried his best to maintain strong relationships with them all. He was a devoted husband to Elizabeth and her death left a huge hole in his heart. We grieve his loss tremendously but take comfort in knowing they are together again.
A memorial service is planned for Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Acacia Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 14951 Bothell Way NE, Seattle, WA 98155. In lieu of flowers remembrances can be made to The Salvation Army.
