If there was one word to describe Geof, it would be passionate. His passion showed through people as he loved to engage in lengthy conversation with everyone from the cashiers to everybody at work. It was many times an annoyance when he would do it at the store, but in retrospect, it was endearing that he cared and respected everybody. He was easy to talk to and could talk until your patience gets tested.
His passion showed at work. He was very well respected in his field and made many impacts with Expeditors and the people he worked with. Working in the next room whenever he worked from home, you could hear him get heated and excited in all his calls. He was always one that demanded everything to be perfect, or at least done with care. He made many friends at work. The face he showed at work was not too different than the face he had at home.
His passion showed through his hobbies, as he would latch onto a topic and run with it to become a savant. He was into music, spanning from classical, industrial, jazz, punk, indie and even pop. He was in a music club he helped founded to share, discuss, and critique amongst. He loved listening to music, singing karaoke, and at his most jovial, dancing to music. He got into modular synthesizers over the past couple years and collected two desks worth of them. He would spend many evenings learning and playing them, and the times he wasn't playing them, he spent watching videos and reading about new modules. He's been very much into wine. He never considered himself a sommelier, but he was able to describe the characteristics of so many wine grapes and regions and go into all the intricacies of wine making that you could believe he was one.
His passion showed with animals, as he couldn't help but to pet and play with every dog he encountered out in public. He was a dog-father to Seamus, Beaulah, Frodo, and Rufio. He was a cat-father to Moto and Moikane. He loved feeding the crows out in the backyard Cheetos or nuts. He would get so happy whenever he spotted a seal when we were picnicking on the beach. His spirit animal was a bear, and that showed through the pleasure he got scratching his back on the doorframe like they do against trees.
And most importantly, his passion showed with the people he loved. He maintained a great relationship with his ex-wife, Royann. He was so happy for her when she found her current husband, Mark. He did not hesitate to say "I love you" in the morning and when he came back home from work. He loved all his nieces and nephews ("neiphs" as he would call them) and was always excited to pick out their Christmas gifts when it came time. He was a great husband who was loyal, caring, honest, and giving. He was a great big brother, son and son-in-law. He was so happy when he had the realization that he had a little sister and had little brothers to be a big brother to.
Geof will be missed. We all wish you are up there on your dream boat, sailing through the beautiful oceans, mountains, and scenery with your father and furry children. Until we meet again, your memory will be kept.
