Liz was born in 1941 and raised in Rickmansworth, England, the eldest of three daughters. During her young adulthood, Liz lived and worked in Paris. She spoke four languages. In 1963, she moved to the US to marry the love of her life, Rockey, whom she met while he was stationed with the US Air Force in England. They started their married life in Phoenix, AZ where their daughter, Gabrielle, was born. Their daughter, Christie, was born a year later in Denver. Liz and family moved quite a bit in the early days. After 10 years in Reno, NV, they settled in the Seattle area for the remainder of her life. But she never lost her connection to and love of England, visiting annually.
There was never a more prolific reader than she. Which is why her 30 year career at the University of Washington Bookstore was such a perfect match. In addition, she loved her garden. Working in the outdoors with plants and flowers gave her years of pleasure. Liz was an avid baker and kept vacations and holidays enhanced by a plethora of cookies, shortbread and scones. Her daughters had homemade cookies each day in their lunchboxes and her grandchildren were ecstatic to have a grandma who bakes. And did we mention her mad Sudoku skills?
Liz is survived by her husband, Rockey; her two daughters, Gabrielle Gruber and her husband Bill, and Christie Porter and her husband Scott; her grandchildren, Claire Gruber and her husband Matt Biron, Samuel Gruber, Megan Porter, and Kelly Porter; and her sister Lunita Williams.
We will miss her terribly. There are no words. Rest in peace dear Lizzie, Mom and Grandma.
