Dorothy Joan Bohn died July 17 at 79 years old after a one year battle with cancer. She was surrounded in love by her husband of 51 years Phil and her children Laura and Stephanie in the days before she died. In addition to her immediate family she leaves behind a grandson Abera (Laura + Efraim), a loving sister Carole, brother and sister in law Steve and Eileen, and numerous neices and nephews as well as their children.
Joan was born and raised in Seattle, graduating from Roosevelt High School and the University of Washington. She enjoyed a long career as a medical technician at Virginia Mason, Sand Point Medical Center, and Seattle Children’s Hospital. She found many lasting friendships with her colleagues everywhere she worked.
She was a member of SandPoint Community United Methodist Church and found great meaning and value in her faith. She enjoyed participating in Bible Study groups there as well as helping support some of the administrative functions of the church.
Her love of the outdoors extended from backpacking trips with Phil and camping trips with the entire family around the Pacific Northwest to maintaining her immaculate garden. She would spend hours outside tending to her roses and other flowers while meeting and chatting with neighbors and passers by. Outside of her yard, her other favorite place was the family cabin her father built on Lake Tapps. Many summers were spent swimming the side stroke (couldn’t get that beautiful coif wet) and tending to the surrounding landscape.
Her love of gardening was only outmatched by her love of her family. Gathering with extended family for birthdays and holidays were important milestones that always included great food and lots of laughter. She will be missed dearly by all who were touched by her thoughtful and caring nature.
