KE7TQS
Our beloved Darlene passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, niece, sister-in-law, friend and teacher. Darlene was preceded in death by her father, John, and is survived by her mother, Alma Felder, sisters, Susi Frost (Bob), Connie Brouner, Nancy Horner (Ed), nieces, nephews and their children. She fought hard to stay with us but is now at peace in the arms of her heavenly Father. Her helping hands and loving heart will be missed by all and her beautiful quilts and embroidery will provide a lasting symbol of her talent, love and sharing spirit.
Darlene lived in the Seattle area all her life. She attended Whitworth Elementary, Sharples Junior High and Franklin High School. She received her degree from Central Washington State College in 1971 and devoted her life to teaching. She lived in Edmonds where she taught Special Education at Chase Lake Elementary for 30 years.
Darlene's calling to help special needs children began in her teens. A Campfire Girl, she spent summers at Camp Sealth as a camper, counselor, director and served on the Puget Sound Campfire Council board for many years.
Her travels included Japan, Europe, Alaska and an unforgettable cruise through the Panama Canal in 2011. Darlene was an active HAM operator and held an Extra-Class amateur radio license, the sweet voice of KE7TQS will no longer fill the air waves. She enjoyed time on the Long Beach Peninsula with family and gathered a caring circle of friends through her community involvement.
Darlene requested memorial gifts be made to: Camp Sealth Campership Fund, Campfire Central Puget Sound Council 4241 21st Avenue West, Seattle, WA 98199. Contributions will provide camping experiences for children in need.
Celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, September 9th. Mountain View Community Church - 12033 Seattle Hill Road, Snohomish, WA 98296.
Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high
There's a land that I've heard of once in a lullaby.
Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream,
Really do come true.
Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops,
High above the chimney tops,
That's where you'll find me.
Somewhere over the rainbow!
