Tony and I had lunch several times a week when we were both in town.  The classic was a meal at Da Thao where you get a whole meal for $3.50.  There was always the classic Tony Special.  It was always topped with a fried egg.  He and I would talk politics or just seat and eat.  

He was always generous buying lunches or inviting my family and I to vacation with him on Kona.  He was very inclusive and open minded.  I will miss our conversations and listening to his stories.

Tuesday Poker nights In Cabo

Where does one start, I’ve known and been a friend of Tony’s for nearly 50 years. I first met Tony because he played in the Cascade Golf Club with my Father and others from my Father’s generation. Tony was a beginner, he said that golf was a means to meet successful  professionals and businessmen in order to learn how to be successful in his own life. Along the way he became quite an accomplished golfer. I appreciate Tony because he was unpretentious, spoke his mind (to which I frequently disagreed with him), very generous with his friends and lived his life exactly the way he wanted. It’s hard to believe that I won’t be playing golf with Tony anymore. I’m sure the next time I’m tensing over a money putt I’ll be thinking of him. I’ll miss you Tony. Rest In Peace my friend.

Tony and I met while playing golf at the Fairwood Golf and Country Club and became good friends. But every November my wife Judy and I would leave for Cabo San Lucas where we have a home on a golf course. Judy passed away six years ago. About four years ago, Tony asked if he could come to visit me and play golf. He made lots of friends and decided to spend every winter there. He met a lady and then he spent the majority of his at her home. Tony and I must have gone to hundreds of dinners together. When he was here about three weeks ago attending his brother in law’s funeral Tony and his daughter Sara took me to an Asian restaurant that was packed with customers. Tony made a remark about me being the only gringo in the restaurant. We also talked about how healthy he was. He also kept track of how many rounds of golf he played this season, over 300 rounds. For the non golfers, one round 18 holes times 300 =5400 holes. I am really going to miss Tony, he’s been my best friend for the last five years.

A daily view of Tony from the veranda . Tony rarely golfed just one round.  Sometimes he ended the day with not just two 18 hole rounds, but he squeezed in an additional nine holes on top of that!! He is definitely the most passionate golfer I’ve ever known. 

I will be forever grateful for Tony’s friendship to my dad. They golfed together, shared meals several times a week and enjoyed their Tuesday night poker games with friends. His absence has left a significant void.  Rest in peace, Tony. ❤️

In mid-september Tony took May (his little sister) and me horseback, camel, and dune buggy riding in Cabo. We all had a great time and that day will always be a great memory of Tony for May and me.
