Anna Chuen Ying Chang Tang was born on May 27, 1913 in Chyan Yang, Sichuan, China, into Chang's family as the fifth of eight children. She was baptized 1930 in a Methodist church. After graduating from Jing Ling Woman's University in 1934, she served as the executive secretary of YWCA in Chong Ching for more than ten years.
On Aug. 16, 1946 she married Dr. Christopher Tang, then a professor in Jing Ling seminary in Nanjing. In the spring of 1952, they emigrated to New Jersey, United States. In the same year, she entered Drew seminary, graduating two years later with a B.D. degree. While at Madison, New Jersey she participated in the project of translating Christian classics in Chinese. Since 1962, she worked as a librarian in Tennessee and Minnesota. They retired in 1977 and moved to Seattle.
In 1979, Anna and Christopher used their savings to establish a foundation for "Christopher Tang Prize for Christian Literature". Since then 69 people have been awarded. The long lasting influences of this prize have benefited and will continue to benefit Chinese churches in and out of China.
Throughout her life, Anna loved the Lord. She passed away on April 17, 2010.
