Wilma Sue Brookins

Wilma “Sue” Brookins passed away on July 18, 2021, at the age of 74 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

It would be wrong to say that Sue lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, Sue stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quit in Sue. Just because she is no longer here, it does not mean she lost her fight because she won the race where the finish line was at the gates of Heaven.

Sue was born in Providence, Kentucky April 16th, 1947. She graduated from Webster County High School in 1965 and completed her bachelor’s degree at Amber University in 2000. After working at Tyco for 30 years as an Executive Administrative Assistant she retired to enjoy time with her family.

Sue met the love of her life, Ron, while working at The Diamond Dairyette. It was love at first sight. They were married on August 21, 1965, then made their home in Balch Springs, Texas. Together, they had two children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Despite her growing family Sue always made time for everyone. She always provided support and encouragement for her family. Sue loved dressing up at Halloween for her grandkids, she would say to them as she reaches for them “red nails are gonna get you.” Many Wednesday nights you could catch Sue at the bingo hall enjoying time with friends and sharing laughter. Sue loved to travel with her husband Ron and family to play at the casino on her favorite slot machines on a regular basis. She would never shy away from playing games with her family. She enjoyed the competition and laughter it brought. Sue loved watching game shows, soap opera and her favorite sports teams the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Dallas Mavericks.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, James, and Lena Hill. She is survived by her two brothers Marvin and wife Beverly, and Jerry Hill; her two children son Chad and wife Shelley, daughter Tiffany and her partner Faustino Del Angel, and grandchildren Annah and husband Rico Cortez, Chaeli, Axel, Corban, Castan, Chessa, Maddox, Lennox, Mia, Alessandro, and Helina; great grandchildren Elliana and Delilah and many nephews and nieces. All of these she loved very deeply.
