Shirley was born on February 6, 1943 in Dallas, Texas to Augusta and Richard Ryer Sr. Shirley was raised in Dallas, Texas (in the Kleberg area) and attended Riley High School where she graduated in 1961, and she attended Oak Grove Baptist Church with her family. During High School, she was honored with such awards as Class Officer, Class Favorite, Best All-Around and Class Secretary.
Shirley went on to marry James Nelson Wells on September 5, 1970 and the couple had 2 children: Dennis Wells & Lenay Wells. Shirley's greatest enjoyment was being a pianist and transcriptionist for many years. She loved to play piano for the church and enjoyed being of service to others. Shirley also enjoyed working at her Pecan farm. Tending to her yard, Pecan trees, and Crepe Myrtles were her favorite hobbies when she was not busy looking after the kids or serving Christ. Shirley also loved to write poems and songs.
Shirley's friends and family will remember her as a dedicated Christian who loved the Lord and served the church and community, as well as a talented pianist, most recently the pianist at Patrick Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her brothers, Richard Jr, Pat, Jim, Al, Ed, and John Ryer, and her sisters, Joyce Barnes and Mary Rich.
Shirley is survived by her children, Dennis Wells of Royse City, TX & Lenay Wells of Josephine, TX, her grandchildren, Jaylen Hicks of Josephine, TX and Kelsi Null, and great-grandchild, Andi Null of Weatherford, TX.
