Donny Grew up around Dallas. As a young man, Donny (#7) could always be found at the race track. He lived and loved racing. He earned himself the nickname "Droop" in the racing community because no matter what he tried, his pants always seemed to droop. He met the mother of his children Judith and moved the family to Mesquite Texas to raise his family there.
Donny was a truck driver for the majority of his life. He spent 43 years transporting sand and gravel, most recently with Calvin Travers until his retirement in 2017. Outside of work, his love for racing continued as he passed it along to his son, Bubba (#7) helping him build his first racecar and supporting him through his racing career . As the years went on, Donny would go on to support his son-in-law, Jeff Sonntag (#73), and his Grandson Bentley Smith (#26s) in their racing careers.
When not around the track, Donny could be found with his family, eating Whataburger, or mowing his lawn on his tractor. In 2011, he was able to take steps towards his dream of retiring in the country by buying some property and moving out to Quinlan, TX.
Donny was a simple man, a hard worker, and a loving Daddy. He had the biggest heart, he would do anything for anyone in need without ever asking for anything in return. He would give the shirt off his back and never complained about his lot in life. Donny's kids, grandkids, and family were his entire world, and always worked to let them feel that love.
Donny is survived by his mother, Ruby Faye Spencer; his ex-wife, Judith Fondren; His children, Brandi "Big Britches" Spencer-Smith and her husband Terry, Heather "HEH" Spencer-Sonntag and her husband Jeff, and Bubba Spencer Jr.; his grandsons, Bentley Smith and Wesley Sonntag, along with his grand-dog and man's best friend Buck.
