Richard Lee Troxell, age 83, passed away February 17, 2022, of Scottsdale, in his home with loved ones nearby. He is survived by Bonnie Troxell (wife) of 62 years, and three children: Allison Scharr (daughter), Joe Troxell (son), and Kim Lamey (daughter). Richard also leaves behind six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two nieces.
Richard was born on December 1, 1938, in Springfield Illinois to Lyman and Signe Troxell, and older brother Ray. He attended Springfield public schools and earned a bachelor’s degree from Illinois College in Business Psychology in May of 1958. He, and Bonnie, were married on June 11, 1958.
During the Vietnam War, Richard enlisted in the Army, but sustained an injury during training and was honorably discharged. He enlisted in the National Guard in Alton, Illinois where he would spend the next 25 years serving his country as a National Guardsman. He retired from the National Guard in 1991.
Richard worked as a systems analyst throughout his career in various companies in both Illinois and Arizona. He started his career at Franklin Life in Springfield, Illinois. After having moved to Arizona in 1979, he worked for Sentry Life Insurance of Scottsdale, Arizona Public Service (APS) of Phoenix, and the Motorola Company of Scottsdale. Richard retired at age 63 in 2001.
Always a faithful servant, Richard often volunteered at First Southern Baptist Church in Scottsdale, and later at First Baptist Church of Tempe. Richard was a man of faith and believed in Jesus Christ with all of his heart.
Richard loved family time, woodworking, gardening, reading, baking, and walking his many dogs. He handmade many Christmas ornaments over the years for his children and grandchildren. He loved to bake pies for family gatherings. He would kindly greet whomever he met with a warm smile and friendly words. His legacy of love, laughter, and faith will be carried on by his family. He will be greatly missed, but they will be reunited again someday.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2022, 11:00 AM, at Green Acres Cemetery in Scottsdale, Arizona. Any contributions made in remembrance of Richard Troxell can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Arizona Chapter.
