Milt was a long time resident of Matawan, New Jersey and for many years was the co-owner of a stationary store in New York City. Milt and Muriel moved to Sun Lakes in 1992 after retiring from work.
During the Second World War, Milt was a member of the U.S. Army’s 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 639th Anti-Aircraft Battalion. His unit took part in the Battle of the Bulge and the defense of the Bridge at Remagen, Germany.
Milt belonged to the Jewish War Veterans for over 50 years and was a member of Post 619 of the JWV of Sun Lakes. Along with his wife, he was very active in fundraising efforts for Post 619, resulting in the dedication of three rooms in the Veterans Hospital in Phoenix. He was also a member of the Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation and for many years was in charge of food collection and delivery for a local homeless shelter.
Milt and Muriel were active travelers and visited many countries around the world. He led a full life which included taking classes at the Chandler-Gilbert Community College and spending summers attending a learning program for seniors at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. Milt had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed playing practical jokes on friends and family. He loved to help others and was loved by everyone who knew him. He will be missed by many.
Milt is survived by his wife Muriel of Sun Lakes, his daughter Robin Gross and son-in-law Phil Levinton of Maryland, and his sister Frances Weinstein of Florida. He was preceded in death by his son, Keith. Donations may be made in Milt’s memory to the Jewish War Veterans, Post 619, 521 W. Cherrywood Drive, Chandler, AZ 85248.
Funeral Service and Military Honors are scheduled for NOON, Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at Green Acres Chapel of Light, with Entombment to follow.
