John P. Schwartz

Of Scottsdale, AZ died peacefully on November, 23, 2015 while under hospice care and the loving attention of his family. John was born in Des Moines, IA to Dr. John Peter Schwartz and Bertha (Peard) Schwartz. John attended St. Augustin Elementary School and Roosevelt H.S. (1944). John also attended Drake University and Washington University. During WWII, John joined the Navy and served as a medic aboard the aircraft carrier USS Boxer. Upon his honorable discharge, he completed his medical degree from the Osteopathic College of Medicine and Surgery (1954). As a distinguished and respected physician, John practiced at Doctors Hospital in Columbus, OH and Des Moines General in IA. John moved to AZ in 1976 and continued his practice at Mesa General Hospital and Scottsdale Community Hospital. John was married to Mary Marcinko (1954) until her untimely passing in 1982. John was an active member of the Catholic Church including St. Augustin and St. Pius X in IA, and St. Maria Goretti in AZ, where he served as Pastoral Council Chairman, Eucharistic Minister, Cursillo member, and Volunteer Doctor at St. Vincent De Paul Medical and Dental Clinic. In 1984 John met and married, Helen Croft, his soulmate and loving companion for the rest of his days. Dr. John P. Schwartz is survived by his wife, Helen, her five children, daughters Kathy Clark (Michael), Susan Bloomfield (Ed) and son Michael Schwartz, brother Lou Schwartz (Joan), five nieces and nephews, 28 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his sister Mary Schwartz. A visitation will be held Friday, December 11 from 5-8 p.m. at Green Acres Mortuary, 401 N. Hayden Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85257. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, December 12 at 10 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 6261 N. Granite Reef Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85250 with reception to follow.
