We will celebrate his life at Calvary Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff on Saturday, August 31, at 10:00 am, with a light lunch following. We hope to share memories with those who knew Jack and whose lives he touched.
Jack was born in Waupaca, Wisconsin on May 4, 1947 to Raymond and Marian (Danielsen) Martin. He enjoyed being a lifeguard and swimming instructor at South Park Beach in his hometown. After serving in the Navy, Jack graduated from Dana College in Blair, Nebraska with a major in Physical Education and minor in Music. While at Dana, he met his wife Becky as they stood and sang next to each other as shepherd and shepherdess in the operetta "Amahl and the Night Visitors."
Jack married Rebecca Haack in Loveland, Colorado on August 23, 1975. After three years in Harrisburg, Nebraska, they made their home in Gering where they raised their three sons, Adam, Aaron and Austin. Jack taught Elementary Physical Education and coached basketball, track and softball in the Gering school system for 38 years. He also coached his own sons through G.O. Baseball as well as YMCA basketball. He loved kids of all ages and saw the importance of giving each one the chance to learn and grow up to their potential.
Music was also an important part of Jack's life. He played his trombone in the Gering City Band for many years. He sang tenor in Valley Voices, Riversong and Calvary's Adult Choir. His faith was evident in all he did. Jack was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church and he served on the local Cooperative Ministries Board. Giving of himself and serving others was his nature. His favorite T-shirt said Choose Kind.
After retiring from education, Jack worked for the City of Gering Parks Department up until the time of his death.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Becky, his three sons Austin, Adam (Amy) and their sons Noah and Connor, Aaron (Nicole) and their daughters Chelsea (Sidney) Speir and Cameron Cuellar and one great grandson, Elijah Speir.
Memorials may be given to Calvary Lutheran Church. Fond memories and condolences may be left at www.dugankramer.com.
