Bonnie Kay Bernhardt (84) of Scottsbluff, passed away on October 10, 2024, at Regional West Medical Center. A memorial service is scheduled for 12:00pm, Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel, 3201 Ave B, Scottsbluff, NE, 69361. Interment will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Park. A memorial in Bonnie's name can be made to the Festival of Hope, PO Box 377, Scottsbluff, NE 69363.
Bonnie was born on March 30, 1940, in Fort Morgan, Colorado, to Orvin and Florence Palmer. She graduated from Wiggins High School in 1958. She married Melvin Bernhardt on August 25, 1961, in Wiggins, Colorado. The next several years they lived in Fort Morgan, Yuma and Northglenn, Colorado before moving to Mitchell Valley to follow Melvin's career in the fertilizer/chemical field.
Bonnie worked at K-Mart, SoFro and spent 9 years as a CNA at Heritage Estates. She loved serving the needs of her patients and was honored to receive many awards including Employee of the Year. Bonnie was an avid reader and could read a 300 page book in one night. .She was a dedicated Denver Nuggets fan and made the best cookies for her family.
Bonnie was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2005 and has been undergoing chemotherapy for the past 19 years. She was very grateful for the prayer support and excellent care provided by Dr. Bjorling, Dr. Gill, and the nurses at the infusion center.
Bonnie is survived by her husband Melvin, daughter Heidi (John), grandchildren Amber, Keisha (Mike), Caedon (Lizzie), Caleb (April) and 7 great grandchildren, Salem, Dante, Seraphyne, Elion, Eniya, John, and Dylan.
Bonnie was preceded by her parents, brother Billie, son Scott and grandson Nick.
