Avis was born October 22,1936 in Bayard, Nebraska to John Jacob and Mary Edith Shadegg (Smith). She was the youngest of 5 children and grew up on the family farm outside Bayard. After graduating from Minatare High School in 1955, Avis married Daniel Carl of Wewoka, Oklahoma; they later divorced. Avis spent most of her adult life in the Scottsbluff area raising 3 children and working for many years at the Midwec Corporation. Through a mutual love of square dancing, Avis met and married Malcom “Gene” Browning on September 17, 1983 and their lives were a testament to love and the joy of family. Avis’s greatest joy was spending time with her children & grandchildren, making holiday crafts with them, crocheting and creating family videos, evidenced by the thousands of hours of video memories the family has to cherish. She was so loved.
Preceding Avis in death were her parents, her loving husband Gene, son Darrell who sadly died of cancer in 2011; 3 brothers, Jack, Bill & Fred, and 2 special sisters-in-law, Bonnie Shaddegg & Katherine Shadegg, and brother-in-law, Don Brown. Surviving family who will miss her dearly, include daughters Reva (Stewart) Fielding of Alliance, Barbara Wood of Denver; sister Barbara Brown of Loveland, Colorado; 8 grandchildren, Jeremy Fielding, Stevi Buskirk (Cody), John Alex Wood, Meredith Herbert (Cody), Chelsea Fielding (Ryan San Juan) Brodie Fielding, and Jordan & Sam Real; 6 great-grandchildren, Addyson, Nolan, Rylee, Lincoln, Jack and Bowen; and numerous wonderful nieces and nephews.
