Rose J. (Cerrato) Pittella, of Scituate, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2022, at South Shore Hospital, So Weymouth at the age of 91. She was the wife of the late William Joseph Pittella, formerly of Danvers, with whom she shared 26 years of marriage.
Rose was born in Brockton on September 18, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Gaetano and Della M. (Quarleno) Cerrato. Rose was a graduate of Brockton High School Class of 1949. While raising her children, she went on to study nursing and was a 1970 graduate of the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health (MDMH) School of Practical Nursing in Foxboro. Her nursing career spanned over 25 years, working at Cardinal Cushing General Hospital in Brockton, Easton Lincoln Nursing Home, Hunt Memorial Hospital in Danvers and Newhall Nursing Home in Salem.
She is survived by her children, Rosemarie Hamilton and her husband Steven of Bellingham, John M. Jordan and his wife Julie, of Scituate, and Barbara Szumylo and her husband Martin of North Easton. Rose is survived by her sister Lucy Bonaparte and her husband Harold, of West Wareham. She was predeceased by her brother, Samuel Cerrato. She also leaves behind many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Rose was a very proud, independent woman. She will always be remembered for love of her cats, including her fur babies, Buddy, Star, Lucy, Sophia, Penny and Tiger Lily. Rose was an avid gardener and could often been seen tending to plants and flowers in her yard. She loved knitting Afghans for her family and watching old time western movies, including anything with John Wayne, Gunsmoke, Cheyenne and the Rifleman, to name a few. Above all, she will be remembered as a fighter and for her love of family.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral home, Scituate followed by a funeral service at 1:30pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rose’s name can be made to the Scituate Animal Shelter.
