Patricia “Pat” (MacDonald) Patterson, age 96, of Scituate passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on the afternoon of April 27, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late Gilbert J. Patterson, II, with whom she shared 69 years of marriage before his passing in 2018.
Born in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Harriette (Farrington) MacDonald, and sister to the late Douglas and Jerome MacDonald. While visiting her aunt’s summer home in Scituate, she met her husband Gilbert “Gil”. Once married Pat and Gil settled in Scituate raising eight children and contributing to a number of worthy causes. In 1996, Elderpreneur of the Year at age 70, she was recognized for her active involvement in collecting and delivering food to The Pine Street Inn in Boston to feed the homeless, and as a liaison from the community to the Long Island Shelter, Carolina Hill House Shelter and Mainspring House. Pat spent countless hours volunteering for the Red Cross and was a Eucharistic Minister at St, Mary’s Parish. She was named a 2006 Community Unsung Heroine by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for her acts of kindness and service to the community to enrich the lives of others. Pat was a strong woman who put her all into many things but at the end of the day, her true passion in life was devoting time to her large family.
