Mary was a 1957 graduate of Stonehill College and the class secretary. In 1980, she received an MA in Counseling Psychology from Boston College. A passionate social worker and psychotherapist for decades, Mary fought tirelessly to bring strength to the voiceless and relief to those suffering from addiction. She was just as devoted to her many friends. Mary adored children, especially her five children and eight grandchildren, and they adored her right back. She was a talented gardener, known for bringing a riot of color each summer to the family home in Scituate, and in her later years found great joy in ballroom dancing.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years (and dancing partner) Jack; her sister, Susan (Lough) Pikor; her son Patrick and his partner Ann Montgomery; her daughter Kathy and her husband Doug Brandt; her son Michael, his wife Mary, and their children, Katherine, John, and Ryan; her daughter Susan, her husband Scott, and their daughters, Jane and Lucie; and her son Matt, his wife Jennifer Sherburne, and their children, Eliza, Henry, and Vivian and many beloved nieces and nephews. She and her one-of-a-kind laugh are already sorely missed.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 6th from 2PM to 6PM at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd, Scituate. A funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 7th at 10AM in St. Mary’s Nativity Church, 1 Kent St, Scituate follow by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Scituate.
