Beloved wife of 62 years of the late Frederick E. Dwyer, Jr, the loving mother of Stephen Dwyer and his wife Lyn of Andover, and Suzanne Dwyer of Brooklyn, NY. Devoted grandmother of Andrew Dwyer of Boston, Cameron and Connor Dwyer of Andover, Caiden and Nola Dwyer Hernandez of Brooklyn. Dearest sister of the late Francis Erwin and sister-in-law of Christine Erwin of Quincy, and 5 cherished nieces.
Mary was born and raised in Braintree, and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Weymouth. After attending Wyndham Junior College in Boston, Mary began her secretarial career at Old Colony Gas Company in Braintree. After moving to Scituate with her family, she spent many years working in the Scituate Schools as a reading teacher, school librarian and secretary. Mary also worked for many years as the receptionist for Dr. Richard Murphy’s dental office in Scituate.
After her retirement, Mary devoted a great amount of time to her family and community. She was a gifted homemaker, gardener, seamstress and knitter. She also enjoyed playing cards and walking with friends.
Mary was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary of the Nativity in Scituate for over 50 years. There she was a member of the Sodality and Guild. She taught CCD for many years and served as a Eucharistic minister for the homebound. She enjoyed serving as the President of the BC High Mothers Guild while her son attended.
Visiting hours are on Sunday, July 26th from 2PM to 6PM at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd, Scituate. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate on Monday, July 27th at 11AM. Burial immediately following in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Scituate.
