Born in Oakwood, OH, he was the son of the late John D. and Mary Jane (Schwinn) Martin. Jack was a 1960 graduate of Oakwood High School. He received a BA from Wittenberg University in Springfiled, OH, and a Bachelor of Divinity from Colgate/Rochester Divinity School before coming to Boston to obtain a Masters in Divinity and his PHD in psychology at Boston University.
Jack went on to devote his adult life to his private practice as a clinical psychologist-for many years at the BIDMC in Boston, in offices in Duxbury and before retiring in 2019, out of his homes in Cohasset and then Scituate. Jack was for over 45 years an active member of the First Parish Unitarian/Universalist Church in Cohasset where he sang tenor in the choir.
Above all, Jack was happiest when spending time with his family. He was a loving husband for almost 57 years to his wife Carol (Farwig) and a devoted father, father-in-law and grandpa (Papa) to Jennifer Matkin, son-in-law, Jeff and their children Chloe and Jonah, and Kristin Fredette, son-in-law Jason, and their two sons, Gabriel and Zachary.
A memorial celebration of Jack’s life will take place at a later date.
