Archibald T Hodge

Hodge, Archibald T. – November 7, 2018 - Age 82. He passed peacefully, surrounded by family, after a long illness. He resided in Scituate, Cataumet and Tortola BVI. He was predeceased by his parents Dr. Harold and Katherine Hodge, sister Margaret Newman and grandson Robert. He was the devoted husband of 62 years to Suzanne Q. Hodge; beloved father to Jay T. Hodge, and his wife Jane of Scituate and Pembroke, Laura Q. Newstein, and her husband Michael of Westborough, and Edgar O. Hodge and his wife Hyeon-suk (Elizabeth) of Suwon, South Korea; cherished grandfather to Christopher, Alexander, Lillian, Sara, Peter, Caelan and Brendan.

Born and raised in Rochester, NY he graduated from Amherst College in 1958. After three years of medical school at the University of Rochester, a chance meeting with an Orthodontist changed his career path. He transferred to the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, graduating in 1964. He went on to complete his post-doctoral education in orthodontics from the Boston University School of Dental Medicine. After graduation in 1966 he started his Orthodontic practice in Scituate. He was always grateful for the trust so many placed with him during the nearly three decades of his practice career. In 1994 he fully retired when Jay acquired his practice.

His competitive nature fueled his early sojourns into auto racing with S.C.C.A. and later transformed into a lifetime passion for tennis and sail boat racing. He was the compassionate leader of the family, an engaging conversationalist with a keen mind and an inimitable man of many talents. He will be forever loved and missed by us all.

Visitation will be held on Friday November 23rd, 2018 from 4-8pm at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate. A funeral mass will take place on Saturday November 24, 2018 at 10am from St. Mary’s of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Buzzards Bay Coalition, or a charity of your choice.
