Born February 12, 1925 in Worcester, MA to Samuel Ellsworth Winslow, Jr. and Edna May Burns, Ann graduated from Brighton High School in 1942 and attended Boston University for two years prior to enlisting in the United States Navy in 1945, serving in the USNR Hospital Corps until 1947.
Formerly of Wellesley and Marblehead, MA, Ann settled in Scituate, MA in 1954 with the late Nicholas Baker. For ten years, she thrived on the staff of Boston’s home office of Elder Hostel (now Road Scholar). She embraced the game of golf late in life and cherished time on the course with her women friends. Ann loved her large family and was a faithful ‘friend of Bill’s’ for nearly 50 years. She married and divorced Douglas Peters, USMC, deceased, 2011. Ann then married Nicholas Baker, USMC, deceased, 1996.
Loving sister of brother Samuel Ellsworth Winslow III of AR and sister Dorothy Winslow Wright of HI, Ann is also survived by her five children: Barbara Ann Peters (David Westfall) of Greensboro, NC; Charles Douglas Peters, USMC, (Ellen) of Oakton, VA; John Winslow Peters (Jean) of Myrtle Beach, SC; William Sawyer Baker of Scituate; Patricia Holbrook (Baker) Gardner (Ward Andrew) of Pahoa, HI; grandchildren John Peters, Jr. of FL; Kathy Peters of MA; Zachary Collins Peters of VA; Kyle Winslow Peters of VA; Jennifer Holbrook (Gardner) Martinez (Hugo) of CA; Nicholas Iakopo Gardner, USCG, (Grace) of CA; and eight great-grandchildren.
Ann will be interred at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, MA. A Memorial Service is planned for Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 11:00 am at the First Trinitarian Congregational Church, Scituate, MA. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend.
