Mrs. Delores Charmagne Lesher, of Schaefferstown, PA passed away on August 19, 2024. The beloved wife of George Albert Lesher, they were married for more than 61 years. She was born on September 7, 1941, in Schaefferstown, PA to Arline Ada Knable (née Krall) and Chester Martin Knable. Delores graduated from Lebanon High School (1958), the York Hospital School of Nursing (R.N.; 1962), Millersville State College (B.S. Education; 1975) and The Pennsylvania State University (M.S., Education; 1997). At the York Hospital School of Nursing, Delores was President of her class and received “The Nightingale Award.” Her career included working at the Lebanon Valley General Hospital where she was the Director of Education teaching many classes to the community including CPR, leading the hospital’s code team, and overseeing the candy striper program. After working at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Delores finished her career as the Ebenezer Elementary School Nurse where she served on the District Wellness Committee and was loved by both the students and staff.
Delores enjoyed walking, painting, and the gardens around her home. She also found much joy in the community of Band Together, where she both led and participated in strength-training classes for older adults as a program supporting Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center’s research. Delores was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Schaefferstown and the Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society for outstanding women educators. She was also involved in volunteering with the Heidelberg Township Recreation Association to develop a walking trail, pickle ball courts, and a playground in Schaefferstown, PA.
Delores is survived by her husband George, daughters, Mechelle Lesher and Angela (Christopher) Klick, and son, George (Beth) Lesher Jr, as well as grandchildren Ada, Grace, and Ella Cate Klick, and Allyson, George III, and William Lesher. She is also survived by her sister, Jackline (Elston) Hill.
Delores’ memorial service will take place on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 1432 Heidelberg Avenue, Schaefferstown, PA 17078. The service will be preceded by family visiting hour starting at 10:00 AM and followed by a luncheon at the St. Luke’s social hall directly next to the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations (checks only) may be made to Heidelberg Township, PO Box 188, Schaefferstown, PA, 17088 with the memo line of the check stating, “Recreation Association donation in memory of Delores Lesher.”
