She was born in Tianjin (near Beijing) China in 1929 to parents she loved, Lee Chiu Sheng and Li Yun Mei and a brother she adored, Sheng Hsian Lee (Linda Ho). In addition to her husband, brother and sister in law, Lily is survived by her cherished daughter, Lorraine Chow Hansen and devoted son in law, Mark Hansen. Lily enjoyed being an aunt to numerous caring and fun-loving nieces and nephews. Her greatest joy was being a doting grandmother to Elizabeth, Eric and Emily Hansen.
Li Lee earned a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering at Taiwan University and a master’s degree in Organic Chemistry at Seton Hall University. She also studied at the University of Texas in Austin and University of Kentucky. It was at the University of Kentucky that Li Lee first met Li Hang in an Analytical Chemistry class.
Having also worked at Revlon, Lily retired as a Senior Research Scientist from Coty, then a division of Pfizer. Her expertise was in cream and lotion product development and Lorraine used to tease her mom that she was the first teenager to wear sunscreen!
Lily resided in Whippany and Cedar Knolls, NJ for 51 years before moving in 2018 to Cedar Crest Senior Living Community in Pompton Plains, NJ. She had a big heart, quick wit and generous soul and enjoyed gatherings with extended family and friends. She was a self-taught cook who prepared delicious Chinese food and was always encouraging others to eat. As the daughter of a newspaper editor, she enjoyed the news and following current events.
Lily was a devoted friend who recently shared that “I’m shy and don’t make friends easily but once I do, we’re friends for life”. Lily taught us to be loyal to our family and friends, enjoy a life filled with gatherings of loved ones and laughter and always pursue hard work and wisdom. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her
