James (Jim) Savage, born May 11th 1941, died peacefully holding the hand of his wife Patricia (nee Gielbelhouse) on January 16th 2020. A devoted husband, proud father, and loving grandfather, Jim was at his happiest when he was surrounded by family.
Jim was born in the Bronx and raised by his mother Ellen Savage. Jim’s father passed away when he was quite young so he and his younger sister, Ellen Marie Williams, developed a lasting bond during their formative years.
Jim was a proud graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School and Fordham University, where he majored in Economics. He worked for New York City for over 40 years, and retired as the Director of Data Processing for the Department of Environmental Protection’s Environmental Control Board.
Jim married Patricia on April 14th 1973. This April, they would have celebrated forty-seven years together. Jim and Pat raised their two sons, Jim and Bill, in Hartsdale, NY,where they spent many summers swimming in the pool and taking trips to the Catskills.
Jim was a lover of classical music and cinema, a seasoned operaphile, and a longtime fan of the New York Giants. He had been a friend of Bill W. for 44 years.
Jim is survived by his wife Pat, son Jim and wife Janice, son Bill and wife Maïté, and his grandchildren Norah, Hannah, and Tate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
