Jacquelyn J. Ueberle

Jacquelyn Joyce Ueberle died on Sunday September 11th, 2022, with her family by her side. Born in New Rochelle, New York on February 17th, 1934, to Elmer and Sophie Cassell, Jacquelyn graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1952. Upon graduating high school, she modeled locally and worked as a bookkeeper at New Rochelle Agency. In 1956, she met the love of her life William Richard Ueberle while swimming past his barbeque spot at The New Rochelle Rowing Club. They were married on November 2nd, 1957 and shared 29 years of happiness together and two daughters Deborah and Diane until his untimely death in 1986. Jacquelyn called Hartsdale, NY home for the last 63 years. After William retired, Jacquelyn and William developed a love of cruising and appreciation for tropical locales.

Jacquelyn was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Scarsdale and volunteered as a Sunday School teacher, Bible Camp Counselor and at the School for the Deaf. While raising a family, she was active in local community affairs and politics as a leader of her local political district. She valued and enjoyed the ability to be of service to others.

As a mom, Jacquelyn was amazing. She shared her love of reading and “poodles,” love of cruise travel, card games and sport. She taught her daughters to ice skate, ride bikes and swim all with a sense of grace and dignity, before and after falling. Her love extended to her son in law John, who she loved as a son and taught him to love Ragu and he taught her to make proper sauce.

As a nana, Jacquelyn shined. She doted on her granddaughter Rachel and the love extended to Rachel’s friends and schoolmates. She was known as Rachel’s Nana by all. They took many trips to the Bronx Zoo and NY Botanical Gardens. She volunteered for lunch duty and was known to sneak in a grilled cheese sandwich for a treat. Jacquelyn embarked on many worldwide adventures with Rachel to Bermuda, the Caribbean, London, Italy, Spain and France. Often with Bitty Baby along for the ride. She was Rachel’s biggest fan and never missed a Holy Child or UMASS game, as Rachel embarked her Lacrosse career.

Jacquelyn was a woman who loved family above all and looked forward to holidays spent with extended family and friends. Jacquelyn looked forward to the annual Swedish Christmas Eve celebration and the drinking of the glogg. She was known to ask, whose turn is it this year as early as the summer, hoping that she would be the host that year.

Jacquelyn will be missed for her kindness, her sense of humor and ability to persevere through tough times. She was born in the midst of the great depression to a family that lost their home and business and in later years she faced many health challenges always with a sense of humor, humility and a unique ability to come out the other end with a renewed sense of purpose.

Jacquelyn is preceded in death by her husband William: parents, Sophie and Elmer; her cousins, Joan, and Thora and others. She is survived by her two daughters Deborah and Diane; son-in-law John; granddaughter Rachel; and cousins Gary, Dennis, Craig, Sue, Tina, Peter, Herman, Barbara, Carolyn and others.

A visitation for Jacquelyn will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Homes, 824 Scarsdale Ave, Scarsdale, NY 10583. A funeral home prayers will occur Thursday, September 15, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM, 824 Scarsdale Ave, Scarsdale, NY 10583. A committal service will occur Thursday, September 15, 2022 from 11:15 AM to 11:30 AM at Ferncliff Cemetery, 280 Secor Road, Hartsdale, NY 10530.
