Helen Liston Hennessy passed away at the age of 99 on Friday, December 28, 2018 after a brief illness. Helen was born in New York, NY and grew up in New York City and Long Island. She graduated from St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School and received a BA from Good Counsel College in White Plains, NY. After college, she worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and Allied Chemical Corporation, where she met at a Christmas party her husband of 47 years, Joseph Hennessy. She had a 25-year career as an elementary school teacher with the Board of Education of the City of New York. After retiring, she enjoyed travel, particularly her pilgrimage trips to Fatima, Medjugorje and the Holy Land, as well as her various volunteer activities through Our Lady of Fatima in Scarsdale, NY. In 2005, she moved to 1 Franciscan Oaks in Denville, NJ. to be closer to her daughter, and lived there until her passing.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, Ellen and Michael Liston, her husband, Joseph and her sister, Dr. Mary Frances Liston. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen Hennessy-Jones and son in law William F. Jones.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Chapel of The Divine Compassion Thursday 11AM January 3, 2019 at 52 North Broadway White Plains New York 10603. Following Mass the burial will take place at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery Valhalla NY. Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 2, 2019 from 4-8 PM.
