Eleanor B. Pisani died peacefully at age 99 on December 25th, 2016, surrounded by family on her 100th Christmas Day. Born in Harlem on October 2, 1917, Eleanor Blanche Kammerer was the eldest daughter of the late Charles and Bella (Rosenthal) Kammerer and was raised in the Bronx. She graduated with honors from Morris High School where she enjoyed writing for the school’s literary publication. Through her best friend, Rita (Taddei) Guidotti, she met her beloved husband of 67 years, Dr. Raymond A. Pisani, who predeceased her in 2008. They were married in the Bronx on May 31, 1941, at St. Anthony’s Church on Commonwealth Avenue. In 1945, on her husband’s return from WW2, they lived briefly in Queens, NY, before relocating to the Bronx where Dr. Pisani established a private dental practice on Unionport Road. While raising their children, Eleanor fulfilled a lifelong desire and graduated from Hunter College in the Bronx in 1964 with a Bachelor’s Degree in English. She became a teacher in the NYC public school system, and taught at PS 87 in the Bronx until her retirement in 1981. During her teaching career, she earned a Master’s Degree from Lehman College in the Bronx and became the Reading Specialist at PS 87. Eleanor and Raymond were parishioners of Nativity of our Blessed Lady parish in the northeast Bronx until 1974 when they moved to the town of Eastchester, NY. She was a faithful member of Immaculate Heart of Mary parish in Scarsdale for the past 42 years. Eleanor enjoyed reading, travel, gardening, quilting, needlework & crafts, theater & opera, driving (until age 91) and above all, her family.
