Edward was born on September 22, 1942 in New York, New York, and passed away peacefully in Calvary Hospital on June 27, 2023. Edward is survived by his three children Deborah, Kenneth, and Theresa, and his brothers Manuel, Michael, and Peter. He was predeceased by his father Manuel, mother Digna, and brothers Jimmy and George.
Ed was a proud graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School where he ran track as a "Hayesman" and Baruch College, The City University of New York and attended Brown University School of Professional Studies with a focus in Banking and Finance.
Ed and his family moved to Scarsdale in 1977, joined Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and he quickly became known as everyone's "Coach" in Scarsdale. He coached the Edgewood girls and boys basketball, baseball and soccer teams-never missing a practice or game and always celebrating their wins with pizza. During the 1980s Ed was part of the Scarsdale Volunteer Fire Company #1. He served his community with his lifelong friends, neighbors and friends of his children. They will tell you, "He never missed a meal at the firehouse. He loved to eat." Ed continued his running at Scarsdale HIgh School track throughout the 1970s to 1990s until he found his passion for hiking. He loved to read and nothing made him happier than to visit "his" Scarsdale Library and just sit and read. He traveled with his children all over the world and always made sure to have pizza no matter what country they visited. His greatest love was his love for his children; He was passionately involved in each of their lives and loved to watch them succeed. He was always there as their biggest cheerleader and advocate.
Ed was a local legend in the world of real estate finance. His career dates back to the 1960’s when he worked in both the insurance and banking arenas. He held numerous senior leadership roles throughout his career including starting at Central Savings Bank on 72nd Street where he was the youngest Vice President in the Banks' History, Dollar Dry Dock Savings Bank and he was head of the Commercial Real Estate Department for Guardian Life Insurance Company to name a few. When he joined Flushing Bank in 1996, he brought with him a wealth of knowledge and valuable experience in the areas of construction finance, condominium and co-op conversions, and term loan financing. He was a tremendous mentor for many at Flushing Bank and was known for his upbeat and always optimistic demeanor. Ed was known to put a smile on the faces of everyone who dealt with him. He had a unique ability to make people feel comfortable and that they mattered. Ed was known by industry peers as “a man for the ages.” He was always willing to share his experiences, knowledge, love of food, and the best pizza location in NYC. He was honored to have spent the final years of his career as Senior Vice President of Flushing Bank.
Ed’s children would like to extend their sincere gratitude for all the care the staff at White Plains Hospital and Calvary Hospital rendered to their father during his time spent there.
Ed will be remembered and greatly missed by all who knew him.
