Born in the Bronx on April 15, 1932, she was the youngest daughter of Nicholas and Teresa (Whalen) Tangney. She attended St. Simon Stock Elementary School, Aquinas High School, and graduated from Hunter College.
She worked for many years at IBM. When she retired in the nineties she was Director of Publications. Earlier in her career, Cora worked at IBM’s Systems Research Institute (SRI) in New York, near the UN, where she met Daniel Tanner, an instructor. They married in Scarsdale, New York, on December 19, 1992.
Cora is predeceased by her husband, Dan, and siblings Nicholas Tangney, Gerald Tangney, Margaret D’Arcy, and Sr. Therese Tangney. She is also predeceased by her niece Kathy Tangney, as well as nephews Scott Tangney, Michael Tangney and Stephen D’Arcy.
She is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and their families.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in memory of Cora to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
A visitation for Cora will be held Monday, June 24, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Home, 824 Scarsdale Ave, Scarsdale, NY 10583. A funeral mass will occur Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 8 Carman Rd, Scarsdale, NY 10583. A committal service will occur Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 12:15 PM at Calvary Cemetery, 49-02 Laurel Hill Blvd, New York, NY 11377.
