Arlene Tobia passed away peacefully on Sep 7th, days after celebrating her 89th birthday. She was born to Arthur L Del Negro, Sr and Laura M (Fiorentino) Del Negro on September 3, 1933.She was the first of three children, her sister Elaine Lyons and parents have all predeceased her.Arlene grew up in the Bronx on the same street as her childhood sweetheart, Raymond A Tobia whom she married September 4, 1955. They were the best of friends, and she was a devoted wife until his passing in 1985.
She graduated from Hunter College with her Bachelor's degree for teaching, and began her teaching career at St. Dominic’s in the Bronx as a Physical Education teacher. Arlene went on to become an elementary classroom teacher in the Ramapo NY school district, and later in Loudonville NY. Wherever she taught, she brought along her love for hands on learning, such as her candy houses, bringing authors to schools and even the Forbes Hot Air Balloon, impacting many students lives. Later in her career she received her Masters from Pratt Institute and was the Media Specialist in multiple Pelham NY Elementary schools.
Arlene was smart, friendly, remembered everyone's name, laughed out loud, and was a great storyteller. Together with Raymond, she raised their five children while still finding time to volunteer for Girl Scouts, the PTA, the Ramapo Summer Recreation Program, among other causes she believed in.
Upon her retirement, Arlene moved to Palm Coast Florida where she enjoyed travel, the beach, friends and family visitors, scrapbooking and needlepoint. Through the Garden Club she grew orchids and loved roses. She continued to volunteer at schools and served on various committees for The Friends of the Library.
