Muriel "Penny" Conlin

January 11, 1939 - March 20, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Muriel "Penny" Conlin, who departed this life on March 20, 2023, at the age of 84. Penny was born on January 11, 1939, to the late Alvin and Delene (née Ackerman) McArthur at their family home in Cape Chin, near Lion’s Head, Ontario. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Penny was a loyal employee of Honeywell for many years, where amongst many things, she soldered circuit boards for thermostats. She was also well known for her ‘tell it as it is’ approach to life and being the neighborhood watch, forever commenting on the comings and goings of everyone in the community.

Penny was a well-known fixture at the local restaurant, The Wexford, where she would often be found chatting with friends, catching up on local gossip, and enjoying a cup of coffee. After the restaurant closed, Penny continued her tradition of driving around town, waving to friends and making new acquaintances wherever she went.

She was a loving matriarch who took immense pride in her family. With 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, Penny's legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will live on through the generations. After her retirement, she dedicated herself to help care for and raise them. Her hobbies included watching the Jays and the Leafs, often cheering enthusiastically from her living room, as well as knitting a variety of items for the many members of her family. She was also a beacon of hope and inspiration for her family and friends, always encouraging them to make the most of every moment.

Penny was predeceased by her loving husband, Patrick Conlin, in 2009. Penny is survived by her children Patti West, Pam (late husband Matt) MacNeil, Cindy (Murray Carr) Conlin, and John Conlin, her grandchildren Tracy (Chris) Chatterson, Lukas (Heather) West, Dane (Kortney Smith) West, Cody (Amy Beresheim) MacNeil, Casey (Owen) Donaghey-Arrowsmith, Nicole (Tim Bekiri) MacNeil, Tyler (Jolynn Robins) Carr, Emma (Liz Plamondon) Carr, Amber (late husband James Patriquin) Conlin, Haley Conlin and great-grandchildren, Sophie Chatterson, Carter Chatterson, Eva Chatterson, Max Chatterson, Reid West, Brady West, Felicity West, Liam West, Lilly Smith, Caoimhe Donaghey-Arrowsmith, Colton Groves, Leo Patriquin, Kai Patriquin, Jaime-Lynn Patriquin.

Penny's family will be holding a memorial service to celebrate her life and the indelible impact she had on those around her. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Penny's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

A visitation for Muriel will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Paul O’Connor Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E, Scarborough, ON M1R2Y8, followed by a funeral service from 12:30 PM.
