Maria Antonia Vit

Maria Antonia Vit (nee Cragno) was born in Mareto di Tomba, Udine (north Italy) on March 19, 1923. She was the beloved wife of Ottorino Vit. Maria passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on Sunday, October 27, 2024. She lived independently in her own condominium up until the very end. She is survived by her daughter, Bruna, son-in-law Randy, granddaughters, Jennifer and Laura, their husbands Steve and Peter and four great-granddaughters Olivia, Charlotte, Evelyn and Elise.

Maria is remembered for her wonderful Sunday lunches. She had many opportunities in her career. In her twenties, she worked in a hospital in Rome, along with preparing cocktails in a bar. She came to Canada in her early thirties and took on a variety of jobs. Her last job was working at Allanson Manufacturing where she assembled ballasts and various electronic components. Maria enjoyed sewing. She would hand wash her kitchen floor on a regular basis, spread yards of fabric on the floor and pin pattern pieces and cut to make her own fancy dresses. They were well-fitted to the waist, with lots of fancy fabric that would be gathered or flare out from the waist. Of course, the shoes and purse always matched her dress. Dress and suits was all she wore. You never saw her in pants.

Maria enjoyed playing Sequence and Rummikub with Bruna on a regular basis. She also enjoyed growing plants, especially African violets, and seeing cut flowers from Bruna's garden.

A visitation for Maria will be held Friday, November 1, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Paul O'Connor Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E, Scarborough, ON M1R 2Y8. A second visitation will take place on Saturday , November 2, 2024 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E, Scarborough, ON M1R 2Y8. An interment will occur Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 2700 Kingston Road, Toronto, ON M1M 1M5.

A Celebration of Life to take place on Sunday, December 1, 2024 from 2 to 5 pm in the Party Room B1 at The Camargue, 2365 Kennedy Road in Scarborough, Ontario, M1T 3S6
