Margaret Marie Nelson

On Friday September 30, 2022 Margaret (Davison) Nelson passed peacefully at the age of 95 after a long, brave battle with cancer. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Jack Nelson, sister Vera and brothers Allan and David. Margaret will be dearly missed by her son John (Debby) and her daughter Marilyn (Paul), along with her many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and great grand nieces and nephew.

Mom was born to parents who emigrated from Belfast and Liverpool landing in Toronto to begin a better life. Mom started life in a small 2 bedroom cottage in downtown Toronto along with her 3 siblings. Our grandparents worked extremely hard to save enough to purchase a home in the Pape/Danforth area of Toronto where she lived until she married Dad and moved to Scarborough to raise their family.

Mom started her career at the Scotiabank and soon moved to Bell Canada where she stayed until her son John was born. Mom continued to work intermittently throughout her life including the Ontario Science Centre.

My brother and I were very involved in sports growing up and Mom was always our biggest fan attending all of John’s hockey games and also traveling out of town to see him play in tournaments. Mom also always supported me in gymnastics, swimming or whatever sport I was interested in participating.

Always generous and giving Mom volunteered throughout her life at her church, local public school library and in the community. She would also help any family member, neighbour or friend who was in need. Mom was always there to lend a hand never expecting anything in return. All through her life she made donations to her church and countless charities.

Mom had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to socialize with Dad attending countless dances and parties where they would dance the night away.

Growing up we spent many happy summers camping from the east coast to the west coast of Canada as well as all throughout Ontario. When we were a little older my Dad and brother purchased a family cottage where many happy times were spent with family and friends.

Mom also had a love of travel seeing Europe, Ireland, Alaska and many other places around the world. As Mom and Dad got older they would spend quite a bit of time in Florida again making many new friends as they did wherever they went. Mom also loved the theatre where we would attend shows in downtown Toronto, Niagara-on-the-lake and Stratford.

Mom was loved by everyone who knew her. Even in her last days where she was cared for with such kindness and compassion at Providence Palliative the staff said what a sweet, lovely lady Mom was.

Mom quite simply was the kindest, sweetest most generous soul and will be very much missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude for the wonderful care and compassion she received at Providence Palliative Care.

Mom you were loved by all and will be dearly missed by all.

Rest in peace dear Mom – now go find Dad and dance!
