Our beloved John, age 91, passed away peacefully on December 28th, 2023. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a passionate bridge player and volunteer.
John was born in Toronto, the son of John and Katherine Macdonald and loving brother to Marilyn Macdonald. His upbringing spanned both Toronto and Vancouver. A talent with numbers and coaching from his father guided John towards a fulfilling and successful career as a CPA.
John met the love of his life Lorraine, in high school on the bus. They were married in September 1956 and have spent 67 wonderful years together, raising two children – Jennifer and John Colin. The family was subsequently enlarged with the lives and the laughter of three adored grandchildren – Coner, Kaitlyn and John Adam.
One of John and Lorraine’s great pleasures was building their beloved cottage in Haliburton together, where they spent countless wonderful summers at the lake with family and friends. Upon retiring they took time to travel extensively to various countries, exploring diverse cultures, always finding beauty in the world.
Beyond his family life, John was devoted to his Church and community. Volunteering his time between charitable endeavors which included the local food bank, Kiwanis Club and the Board of Managers at St. Mark's Presbyterian Church & St. Mark’s Court. Over the years he also served as a Sunday School Superintendent, and Elder.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff from Home Instead who supported John over the past 5 years, providing him with care, friendship, and support in his time of need. A service and celebration of life with the family will be held at St. Mark's Presbyterian Church, 1 Greenland Road Don Mills on January 5th, 2024, at 10:30am. Donations in memoriam are welcome and should be directed to St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.
Rest in eternal peace John. You will be dearly missed and forever remembered by those whose lives you touched.
