Ernest was born July 30, 1930, to Ernest and Gussie Zitterauer Barber, living to the age of 85. Ernest graduated from Commercial High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He married Miriam Barnard in 1953 and had a wonderful marriage of 62 years. Ernest retired from Union Camp Paper Corporation in 1998 with 42 years of service as an electrician. He was a dedicated employee, long-time deacon and Sunday school teacher at First Free Will Baptist of Savannah, a devoted husband, father and friend. Ernest is survived by his wife Miriam, his children and their wives; Michael & Victoria, Ronnie, Ricky & Wendy and David & Barb, 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, his sister Jean, a niece, nephew and their children.
Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00pm Friday, Sept. 25, 2015 at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel.
Funeral Service: 11:00am Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015 in the Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Michael Lochlear and Pastor Steve Hughes officiating. A graveside ceremony to follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
