SIMONEN, Robert (Bobby) - It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Robert Simonen at the age of 77. Bobby passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at the Sault Area Hospital on Thursday, July 5, 2018. Predeceased by his two loving parents, Aili and Eino Simonen. Devoted husband and soulmate for 54 years to Lorraine Simonen (nee Radi). Loving and caring father to Kristine (Shane) and Robert (Marlo). Proud papa to Paige and Skyler and special papa to Dayne Caruso. Son-in law of the late Filomena Romani (Gaetano). Brother-in-law of Shirley Radi, Adele Hood (Alex), Stephen Romani (Bonnie). Uncle of Matthew Romani (Liz), Michael Romani (Nancy), Kai Romani. Lifelong friend to Jimmy Stafford (Betty). Bob leaves behind many relatives in Finland. Bob was born in rural Manitoba and this is where his true love for the great outdoors began. He lived for the days spent at his beloved camp at Gavor Lake. He had many special friends and cherished all the special times together. He took great pleasure in making new friends and staying in touch with the old ones. He loved telling stories about his wonderful childhood; the tables full of his mother's delicious Finnish baking, his dog sled and pet wolf, and numerous fish stories. Later he was raised on Albert Street West at his parents' Finnish Steam Bath. He and his friends used to help his parents who were then rewarded with a free sauna and pop. At 17, Bob met the love of his life, Lorraine. They enjoyed the happy, simpler times of the 1950’s, eventually marrying and sharing a beautiful life together. They were best friends and showed us what true love was. Bob loved Buddy Holly, coffee pula and black licorice. He had a lifelong passion for classic cars and was best known for his Black Panther Camaro. Bob was everything a good husband and father should be. He was kind hearted, loving and a very sentimental soul. Missing his parents from the day they passed, he knew the importance of family, appreciating every minute together. He was always the first to give a hug, never judgmental and always forgiving. He loved spending special occasions together and usually had a special surprise or good joke. His unwavering love for his family showed in everything he did. We were lucky to have had him in our lives and he will live on in our hearts forever. At Bob’s request, there will not be any visitation or service. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Bob would have liked for you to spend time with someone you love. Donations to A.R.C.H. would be appreciated by the family.
