William ""Bill"" Engel

William Engel passed away peacefully on August 23, 2015 at the age of 83 years at Stensrud Lodge in Saskatoon. He is survived by his brother Ernest (Mary) along with their children Gord (Raeleen), Connie (Darrell) and Cindy (Trent); sister-in-law Helen along with her children Glenn (Kerry), Brenda (Mark), Darcy and Carla (Roger); brother-in-law Ron and his children Kevin and Sherry (Warren); along with numerous great-nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents Valentine (Walter) and Annie T. Engel; his brother Pius; and his sister Amy.  William was raised on the family farm in Allan and was the oldest of four children.  In 1954 he took on his first business draying for the town of Allan.  In 1960 William transitioned into Telephone line maintenance, construction and eventually tear down.  At the height of the telephone line construction he employed 26 people.  In 1967 he purchased his first land and he began farming. In 1975 he retired from telephone line construction.   In 1978 he retired from farming.  In his retirement he enjoyed travelling around the world as well as pursuing his hobbies of fishing, hunting and the odd night at the casino.   Many of his best stories surround his travels and his work.   He met many people with his work, some of whom became his closest friends.  In his later years Willie began to “soften” as he cherished the time spent with nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank all of the people who provided care to Willie at Stensrud;  many times he commented how much he appreciated the community and caring staff.

A Graveside Service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens on Friday, August 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.   Please join us for lunch following the service at Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor St).
